If you can’t already tell by the theme of my recent posts, I really enjoyed my three day visit to New Mexico, The Land Of Enchantment. It’s a pretty amazing state, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much there was to see, and how much I would love it. Here are six reasons for you to pack your bag and visit:
1. UNESCO World Heritage sites – New Mexico has three: Taos Pueblo, Carlsbad Caverns, and Chaco Canyon. Currently, that is more than any other state in the U.S. Each site offers a fascinating adventure for you to discover again and again. Unfortunately, due to time constraints we did not make it to Chaco Canyon this visit, but I am determined to see it soon! 2. New Mexican Cuisine – This one was a biggie for me because I absolutely adore Mexican Food. Coming from San Diego where we have THE BEST Mexican Food (I’m not biased at all 🙂 ), it is hard for me to try it anywhere else for fear of being utterly disappointed. That was not the case here ! There is something about the combination of New Mexico’s specialty red and green chiles (locally referred to as “Christmas” style) that give their distinctive cuisine that unique flavor. Well done, New Mexico! I approve. Try Sadie’s , or Frontier (my favorite, thank you for the recommendation Janet! ) in Albuquerque for a great taste of New Mexican cuisine.
3. White Sands National Monument– Such a strange, eerie, amazing, majestic, and beautiful place. You must see it to believe it! Read more about our visit to White Sands here .
4. The Miraculous Staircase in beautiful and historic Santa Fe – It was a treat for me to finally feast my eyes on the Miraculous Staircase. I’m a sucker for places with history and a great story. The town of Santa Fe is extremely charming and is great as a base for your visit to New Mexico, or as a nice place to spend a couple relaxing days en route to the many wonders that await you on your adventure.
5. Roswell – You can’t go to New Mexico and not at least stop in Roswell. Check out the International UFO Museum and snapchat your friends some photos with aliens!
6. Albuquerque – The most populous city in the State of New Mexico, with a ton of things to do. Albuquerque has got everything from the filming locations of Breaking Bad, an annual Hot Air Balloon Festival, a charming Old Town with interesting museums, and Sandia Peak Tramway the longest tramway in the world. Albuquerque will definitely keep you busy on your visit!
