One of the most humbling experiences I have had on my travels thus far was visiting the Taos Pueblo in Northern New Mexico. This amazing cultural treasure is designated both a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a National Historic Landmark. For over 1,000 years, the beautiful adobe dwellings have been continuously inhabited by the Taos Indians. This Pueblo has endured through clashing cultures, revolt, religious upheaval, as well as many other significant turning points, and still it stands. If you are someone who is fascinated by History, culture, and people, it is truly a gift to be able to experience this place first hand.

It’s pretty much a fact that much more is learned, enjoyed, and remembered by actually engaging your senses and experiencing things. That is why Taos Pueblo is awesome. Walking through the pueblo is like stepping back through time. But instead of sitting around and reading about it (Okay, I do enjoy this as well..) you can live it! There are about 150 full time residents of the Pueblo who still observe the traditions and ceremonies of their ancestors. The Pueblos are not the only thing you will see here. You can browse beautiful art pieces created by the locals and hear their stories. You can sample traditional foods like fry bread. Also, you are able to experience traditional ceremonies if your visit coincides with a Feast Day. Be sure to exercise proper courtesy of course if you are lucky enough to witness these sacred traditions.

Visiting places like this not only teach you about other cultures, they teach you about yourself and how you relate to others in this world by opening your eyes to different traditions and ways of thinking. They teach you about the human race and how we are capable of adapting and enduring through the ages.You should definitely go and visit Taos Pueblo soon.
