Assistant Buzz Creator Files: Sundance Film Festival Day 1

The first day of my FIRST time at Sundance Film Festival has wrapped and it was one crazy ride !

We started off at the ASCAP Music Cafe where we covered some performances by The Duchess and the Fox, Jamestown Revival, The Relationship, and Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts. We got access to the press area which was pretty awesome! The only drawback was we were only allowed to film a little bit of each set, so we kept having to go out and come back in for each performance which would have been fine if it wasn’t 20 degrees outside ! But we were so close to the stage and got to see the bands as they came in and went out.

After filming a bit of the Music Cafe, we got an exclusive interview with Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts in their private Green Room area. The band was so awesome and nice, and Scott Weiland was…well he was nice and very Scott Weiland-like.

We also got to interview The Relationship which features Brian Bell from Weezer. These guys were cool and you can tell they take their music seriously.

The last event was the red carpet premiere of Knock Knock directed by Eli Roth, starring Keanu Reeves. This red carpet was insane. The press was crowded into a small tent with all sorts of smells permeating the limited space. We were all literally side by side, cameras on top of each other. The funniest part for us was that our camera man had to go to the bathroom but couldn’t because the talent was due to arrive any minute! Only they didn’t. They were about a half hour late!

But when they did arrive the adrenaline kicked in and everyone turned their game face on. All of the stars were super nice especially Keanu Reeves. He was very engaged in the questions being asked -even if some of the press had already asked him that question.

We ended the night at the STK party at Rock and Reilly’s which I actually had to sneak into because I left my ID back at the place we were staying ! Before we went into the party I had my own celebrity encounter with Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls, contestant on Dancing with the Stars season 19). I walked up to him and said he was so cute in Mean Girls, and awesome on DWTS. He was so nice and asked for my name and how I liked the festival so far. Then he looked behind me and said, “I’ve been trying to text you!” He was talking to Kellan Lutz! They both said it was great to meet me and we went about our business. SO cool !
